Our Values
Everything we do is shaped by what we believe about people and learning
Community
Learning is better together. The Grove exists because people grow when they're in the company of others who are curious too.
Curiosity
Every class starts with a question worth exploring. We believe the desire to learn something new is its own qualification.
Dignity
Every learner is treated as a capable adult with their own strengths, experiences, and ways of working. Our classes are neurodiversity-affirming and people-centered — built on respect, not assumptions.
Expertise
Our classes are taught by instructors with genuine passion for their subjects and a desire to make learning engaging and meaningful.
Belonging
The Grove is a place where people feel welcome, seen, and valued, a community, not just a classroom.
Designed for Every Learner
The Grove is intentionally built for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), autistic adults, and neurodivergent learners. Here's what that looks like in practice.
Welcoming by Design
Small groups, so everyone is known by name. Multiple ways to participate — discussion, hands-on practice, or quiet observation, whichever fits the moment. Instructors with deep experience teaching neurodivergent adults and adults with I/DD.
Built Around Strengths
We start with what each learner brings — their interests, their pace, their way of working. Plain-language materials, sensory-aware spaces, and patient instruction make room for everyone to do their best work.
Self-Direction Friendly
The Grove is eligible for Self-Direction (IDGS) funding — the New York State program that lets adults with developmental disabilities choose their own community supports. Published rates, attendance records, and itemized receipts are available for every session.
