About this class

Step into the spotlight with guidance from working Broadway performers. Center Stage is held at Open Jar Studios, a professional Broadway rehearsal center in Midtown Manhattan. It's the same space where Broadway productions rehearse, and it's just a short walk from The Grove's home at 1350 Avenue of the Americas. Center Stage brings the energy and craft of professional theater into a welcoming, hands-on class where you will explore improvisation, scene work, movement, and what it takes to bring a character to life.

Each session focuses on a different element of the craft. Some weeks you will work on improvisation and thinking on your feet. Other weeks you will dig into a scene, explore a character, or practice stage movement and voice projection. The class builds on itself, but every session is designed to be fun and accessible on its own.

We also take community excursions to local theaters and performance spaces, and we bring in guest performers and directors to share their craft and answer your questions. Whether you have performed before or are trying it for the first time, you will find a supportive group and a lot of great energy in this class.
